Big size difference in 5 week old chicks. Should I worry?

| We think these are either silkie or Orpington, as those are the only types the breeder has. They hatched from two white eggs, and one brown egg. The breeder told us the brown was Orpington. So the brown chick and the runt are both supposed to be silkie but look very different in feathers and size. Should I be concerned about how small the smallest is? [link] [comments] |

- Breed?I am new to backyard chickens. I have five, four are five weeks and one is about three weeks. I got the brown chick and gold chick from the same bin labeled "English Orpington," but the brown chick doesn't seem to be an Orpington. She's smaller than her golden sister, and her coloring is different. What breed do you think she is? I included a couple photos of the golden chick for comparison. submitted by /u/archaicdreamsog [link] [comments]
- is this size difference normal?Ignore the sunbathing pullet. That's the mother hen and her three chicks she hatched 18-19 days ago. Two of the chicks are much larger and have much better developed feathers than the third one. Since we don't have roosters and are only currently walling up, neighbours' roosters must have been the one to fertilize the eggs. My mother says it's probably due to them having different fathers that they look so different but I just wanted to ask more knowledgeable people. We have a flock of 5 chickens currently: This mother hen and her chicks A laying chicken An older pullet The younger pullet seen in the video The younger pullet's cockerel brother (who you can also see limping for a second in the video, I don't know why he's limping but there's no scab on his foot and we originally quarantined him for three days but he seems to be better so we let him out today - he doesn't seem sick, just limping on one leg) submitted by /u/LopsidedScientist1 [link] [comments]
- Double check: are these too small?Hello, im trying to get a start my all black silkies, so im collecting eggs! I was wondering if these seemed too small for silkie eggs to hatch? Not pure silky, i have mystic onyx hens (1/2 silkie genetics) then a silkie roo. My girls have only been laying eggs of this size, not really bigger. The top one is a regular sized egg from another “normal sized” chicken. Should i wait a few months to see if the eggs fatten enough to hatch comfortably? They started consistently laying march/april. - Cockerel?I have a feeling that the Orpington in the middle is a cockerel? They are roughly 5.5 weeks. Maybe too early but I feel it’s a lot bigger than the others and the tail feathers seem different. Sorry, first time chicken owner. submitted by /u/SubSoniq [link] [comments]
