Our take

As the temperatures in southern Virginia soar into the 90s this April, our feathered friends are feeling the heat! With summer just around the corner, it’s crucial to ensure our ladies stay cool and comfy. Observing them panting and stressed in their nesting boxes is concerning, especially since we’re still waiting for those young trees to provide some much-needed shade. We’re planning to add extra tarps and sunshades, but I’m reaching out to the community for more creative ideas. Have you had success with misting fans or other cooling solutions? Let’s share our best tips for keeping our hefty girls happy and chill this summer, ensuring they thrive in the sweltering heat! Check out our setup and feel free to share your thoughts!

We live in southern Virginia and we’ve already had a number of 90-degree days. We have pretty hot summers, and I’m worried about them. They’ve been panting and seem stressed in the nesting box. You can see what we have set up right now, and we plan on a few more tarps or sunshades in the coming weeks.

Does anyone have any tips for beating the heat other than that? Our girls are pretty hefty and I want to do what I can for them. Does anyone recommend misting fans or anything like that? We literally have no natural shade in our yard right now. We’re growing trees, but they small as hell.
