Missing a few days can raise a few eyebrows, especially when her personality shifts and she seems less interested in treats. A warm bath can work wonders, and it’s egg-citing that she laid a shell-less egg! While a shell-less egg isn’t necessarily alarming, it’s essential to keep an eye on her. Ensure she’s getting enough calcium, like oyster shell and crushed egg shells, as these are vital for healthy eggs. If this continues, it might be worth consulting with a vet to rule out any underlying issues.
| | Pricilla hadn’t laid an egg in 3 days which is odd. She usually lays every other day. I noticed a change in her personality today. She wasn’t excited for treats and I noticed her straining but nothing coming out. I decided to give her a warm bath and 20 min later a shell-less egg popped out!! They have constant access to oyster shell and I often feed them egg shells I throw out. Could this be because she’s a new layer or should I be concerned? [link] [comments] |

- Hen with shellless egg hanging out of her ventExactly what the title says, I've got a hen who i noticed had the remnants of a broken shellless egg hanging out of her vent dragging behind her. I gently removed the rest of the membrane which didn't seem to cause her any discomfort other than the fact that she had to be picked up against her will. Aside from extra calcium is there anything else that can be done and is it going to cause issues later? - Super thin eggshellsMy Wyandotte keeps laying eggs with extremely thin shells, often they’ll be broken in the nesting boxes even. They all have access to oyster shells, and I do refill it often so I know some are eating it. None of the others are having these issues, so I’m concerned!
