Eye Infection

Our take

Oh dear, it sounds like your beloved hen is having a bit of a rough time with her eye! At six or seven years old, our feathered friends can face various health hiccups, and this cloudy eye situation definitely calls for some attention. Since her eye was initially closed and has now turned cloudy with hidden pupils, it’s crucial to act sooner rather than later. While topical treatments like Terramycin ophthalmic ointment can be beneficial for certain eye infections, it’s essential to first assess the situation thoroughly. Lethargy is a red flag, so a trip to the vet may be the best course of action to ensure your hen gets the care she needs. Remember, keeping her cozy and comfortable in the meantime will help!

A hen around 6 or 7 years old has had eye issues for around two weeks. It began with her eye closed over with her eyelid, but has now developed to her eye open but it is cloudy/blue and her pupils is hidden. It seems that eye is blind. She is also lethargic. Ive never tried a topical ointment before, like a Terramycin ophthalmic ointment. Would an eye ointment be applicable, if not, how should I proceed. Thank you
