I know a lot of ppl have asked this question.
I’m looking for chickens that are easily obtainable in the U.S.
I don't have any chickens but I've been wanting them for years. What I have in mind are friendly, likes loves, corky, full of personality, great with other breeds but also great egg layers. This probably isn't realistic and if it's not please tell me why, I want to learn.
I live in NW Georgia, we do have mostly mild winters with a few extremes thrown in and hot summers.
I like the Orpington and Wyandotte, my husband wants Barred Rock.
I would love to hear everyone's thoughts and experiences, good and bad.
Oh also I would love to free range but I don't have a fenced in yard. Is it possible to keep them in the yard without a fence? I'm thinking it's probably impossible to do so, I know they wonder. 2 of our neighbors wouldn't care if they ventured into their yards but Idk about the other 2.

- Mixed Flock! Tell me everything!We want a mixed flock, with all the fun coloured eggs! We’re currently getting : 2 barred rocks 2 Olive Eggers 2 Orpingtons 2 Azure 3 Brahma ((BRs, OEs and Azures are coming as 1 day old sexed chicks from a hatchery, someone local to me has eggs in the incubator of the Brahams set to hatch the same time we’re getting the chicks from the hatchery, Orpingtons we’re getting as pullets, hatched at the same time as our ones from the hatchery so they’ll be the same age, at the same time we’ll be putting the chicks outside.)) Does anyone have a similar flock? Tell me all about them! What are some things we should know about having a mixed flock? We’re hoping for one of the Brahmas to be a rooster, and if they’re all hens we’ll also be picking up an Orpington cockerel when we get the pullets! Tell me what you would choose between a Brahma rooster or an Orpington rooster! We plan to free range, so we’re hoping the rooster will help protect the flock a bit! - More chickens!Hi i am after a bit of advice! I have 9 chickens currently: 1x pekin bantams, 2x standard polish, 2x appenzeller, 2x padovana, 2x silkies. I would like to expand my flock and get large breeds (for bigger eggs) as well as a frizzle. I would like more variety of colours in eggs as currently all mine lay white/cream eggs! Are the large breeds i introduce likely to get along with my bantams? What breeds would you suggest? I am mainly looking for brown and green eggs. I am currently looking at: Ameraucana, orpingingtons, faverolles, cochins and welsummers... I am as about far south as you can get in the UK so cold is not a problem, they have a whole field to free roam, a 36m2 secure run and a 6x4ft shed kitted out with 3 different height perch bars. - What advice would you give me for choosing between chicken breeds?I'm planning on getting chickens later in the summer and I AM RESEARCHING LIKE A LITTLE CHICKEN GREMLIN, but I'm still unsure about what I want to do. I will be making a coop and run that are more than big enough to account for chicken math and making as big of a run as my yard can muster as our neighbors have cats that free-roam. I was thinking about getting all brahmas all faverolles or a mixture of chickens, I know I'd like to look into different breeds but I am unsure as I am a novice. I know some breeds to stay away from and I know to stay away from roos until I'm more comfortable, what advice would you give me? I've been looking into breeds that are calm, docile, easy going, or chickens that just mind their business. These are going to be my pets, I'm not entirely worried about how productive they are but I think I'll probably change my mind after a little while.
