Feedback needed on dick chicken

Hey feathered friends and chicken enthusiasts! It seems we have a little cluck-tastrophe on our hands. One of our girls has been feeling a bit under the weather for the past three days. While she was scratching around with her pals, she just wasn’t her usual lively self. This morning, I noticed she was a bit sluggish, standing alone under the coop. When I lifted her, water ran from her beak, leading me to suspect an impacted crop. After some gentle massaging and water, I discovered yellow liquid and what appeared to be plastic or a balloon! She’s been nibbling on a boiled egg and Swiss chard, but I’m still monitoring her. Should I keep waiting, or is there something else I can do?

This morning she just stood a little around under the coop so I wanted to get a better look. When I lifted her up, I tilted her a little and water came running out of her beak. I expected an impacted crop so I inserted water and massaged the crop. Yellow water came out together with something that looked like plastic or a balloon. Since then, she drank a little water, ate almost a full boiled egg and had some Swiss chard. I put her in the garage in a box with straw to monitor if she poops but so far she is standing not sitting. She is standing normal, not like egg bound chickens. She is not molting, I couldn't see any parasites and her cloaca looks normal. is there something else I can do or should I just wait at this point? [link] [comments] |

- Update on sick chicken: read and learnA couple of days ago I posted a question on one of my chickens who got sick. Below you will find the story. 3 year old chicken, in good health suddenly was without energy and separated herself from the flock. When I picked her up, watery fluid ran out of her beak. I emptied her crop and a decent amount of fluid came out that smelled a bit but not really bad. I put her in a box in the garage and checked on her a couple hours later. Her crop felt mushy and was filled with water again. I emptied it and something that looked like a part of a transparent plastic bag or a balloon came out. She ate a little and I kept her in the garage for the night. Next morning she had not pooped and was quite lethargic, not interested in eating and just standing puffed up with closed eyes. If she walked it was without balance. I checked if she was egg bound but found nothing. I then decided to give her an Epsom salt bath to see if that would help. When washing my hands I saw that she stood calm in the bath with her head through the opening in the box. I turned around to dry my hands for perhaps 10 seconds and when I looked again, she had pulled her head through the opening and was basically drowning. I saved her but thought she was gone, she couldn't stand anymore but after drying her and holding her for a while it went a little better. That evening she ate a tiny bit. She had a mushy crop again but I wanted to give her a break and just added apple cider vinegar to her water. Next day she had pooped a bit. I found two worms and the poop was green. I got Flimabo, a dewormer, from the vet and treated her and her sisters. Next day she had a little more energy so I let her out with the others under supervision. After a couple of hours she got tired and just laid in the sun. This morning she has pooped but I found no visible worms but there could be dmall ones. She is still a little slower than normal but much, much better than two days ago. What I think what happened is that she had worms, ate the plastic bag and then couldn't empty her crop. The worms continued to take whatever they needed and she became malnourished resulting in the green poop. By removing the plastic, the obstruction was gone but she was too weak because of the worms. After the worms were addressed she is now recovering rapidly. Lessons learned - There may be multiple issues going on at the same time. What initially looked like an impacted crop, and later a sour crop was also a worm issue - NEVER leave your chickens unsupervised while she has an Epsom salt or similar bath. - Update: Chicken still sick, can’t walk or stand. She can perchMy poor Pickles went to the vet, laid an egg, (I thought she was egg bound), she’s been getting around the clock care in quarantine, but she still can’t walk, she can perch on a dowel, but that’s it. She is eating at least one scrambled egg a day, not really drinking but if I string water over her beak she drinks. Her poops looked normal this morning, yesterday they were mixed, some normal, some watery. It’s been 6 days of this. WTH?? This is her little set up. - Please help!!My favorite hen peachy isn't feeling good. Her tail is bobbing and she's a bit lethargic. I examined her a bit and her crop is small and hard, she also started struggling to breath when I picked her up and tried to get away (this is the most cuddly chicken I've ever had she ADORES being held) I put her in the garage with water and the Internet told me not to give her solid food for 12-24 hours so I crushed up a boiled egg (without the shell) and gave that to her. I saw someone say online to feed a chicken with a bad crop some olive oil and massage the crop so I might try that tomorrow. We thought she was eggbound so we have been putting her in espon salt warm water but we don't feel an egg and she went to the bathroom normally today.
