Finally finished (mostly) our chicken run!
Our take

| We had been using temporary janky run for our girls for the past couple months while we got through a busy time at work. Finally last week we were able to set some days aside and get it done. We’re first time chicken owners so this has been a huge learning experience for us. We have a lot to learn still, but we’re feeling pretty proud of this next step and wanted to share with this community cus you guys have been an amazing resource for us. All 6 of our gals put out an egg on their first day in the new run, so we’re considering that a success 🤣 Also to note before it’s addressed in the comments: I say mostly finished in the title because we still need to add a security skirt and border around the run as well as finish the trim on the backside. - Very Productive SaturdayWorked from 8-8 yesterday getting this new chicken run made! Felt like forever but there was only two of us doing it. Its 12x9, and about 7 feet at the highest point. Might be overkill but it looks so much better than the other run we had. (Last picture) Still not totally finished, need to finish the hardware cloth where the wall meets the roof, add the tin roof, put up the door and a couple other finishing touches. Anyone have any suggestions as to things I can put inside. I was thinking of maybe building them a spiral perch "staircase" so they have something to climb on. Let me know what works with your birds! submitted by /u/itz_abby12 [link] [comments]
- new coop is finally finished enough for a big reveal!been working for about 2 months on this big new coop and run expansion and seeing it all finally come together has been such an exhausting joyful ride! i still have some touch up paint (and full paint on the roof, please imagine any color but orange up there) to do, also adding a new waterer and some extra roosting space and enrichment for the run. but all in all i’m feeling good enough to call it finished(ish)! modified the plans a little from the popular third coast coop design, mostly just modified the roosting bars and made two doors to the nesting box instead of just one. putting the roosting bars parallel like this means it actually could fit the 12-15 birds the builder claims! if you’re new to chickens and chose this coop to build, PLEASE consider some adjustments to the roosting bars. at least swap out the 1x2s for 2x4s i’m begging anyway just wanted to share! i’m so proud and also tired 🥹 submitted by /u/mensfrightsactivists [link] [comments]
- Look one of my bantam’s laid her first egg!At the end of October last year my boyfriend rescued two Old English Bantam chicks. We had a flock that was dumped by their owner in our neighborhood. Every morning 6 chickens would be on our porch wanting food. Of course we started feeding them and it became routine for us to take care of them. Then one day my boyfriend saw one of the hens had two babies chicks running behind her. With them running free we knew those chicks were probably not going to make it against predators. So we took the babies in turned the shed into a coop with a run. And been having the best time watching them grow up. We even got them two more sisters! Yesterday bf was cleaning the nesting boxes and right when he opened one our girl Scoot Scoot was making the noises they make right before laying, however she got spooked and ran out. There was no egg. We decided to go eat and run around for alittle. When we got back I thought to myself go check the nesting boxes maybe she went back and sure enough she did! Being a first time chicken owner it was absolutely exciting and rewarding to see an egg for the first time. We put a lot of TLC into these chickens and now I feel like an official chicken mom! submitted by /u/United-Camel4560 [link] [comments]
- Backyard build almost doneRemodeled my garage and was going to use old cabinets to build a coop. Wife wanted something nicer (I swear it would’ve been good) ended up with this. No plans, just made a sketch and went for it. My dad kept chickens/turkeys so I wasn’t totally green. Happy with how it turned out. I’m a white collar guy so I’m pretty proud of this build. Not really finished, going to lay pavers and stones around it, but it’s done for now. 6 week old chicks finally out of the garage and loving it. Doors warping a little but I’ll take care of it submitted by /u/ravosa [link] [comments]
