First time grandmother here, I have some questions!
Our take
Congratulations, first-time grandmother! Your bantam is about to be a proud momma, and it sounds like you’re in for an egg-citing adventure! Moving momma and her fluffy bundles of joy into a maternity pen is a cluck-tastic idea, but timing is key. It’s best to wait until all the eggs have hatched to avoid any stress for the little ones. As for inspecting the chicks for pasty butt, it’s always wise to keep an eye out, especially in those early days. While momma hen will help with some care, you might still need to step in and give those chicks a little TLC. Get ready for some serious cuteness overload, and enjoy every moment of this delightful journey!

| My bantam is hatching out 3 eggs!! I'm so flipping excited! Questions: I plan to move momma and babies into a maternity pen for at least the first several days. Is it best to wait until they're finished hatching? And do I still need to inspect the chicks for pasty butt a few times a day? Or is the mom able to help with that? [link] [comments] |

- Babies!!!Mama hatched babies today. I checked on her clutch to find several infertile, but one was chirping and still trying to break free. I placed it with mom and chicks. Will Eggbert be OK to finish hatching or should I incubate them? TIA submitted by /u/AdmiralGlitterBottom [link] [comments]
- Update to yesterday's post: We moved the momma and eggs to a separate pen. When we came out this morning to check, one of the eggs had hatched. ❤️Momma freaked out when we first moved her. She tried to escape the pen and didn't want to sit on the eggs. But I stayed with her for a while until she calmed down and then went back to the eggs. Then I checked on her several times in the night to make sure she was staying on them. And she did! The first egg has hatched, the other two have holes in them, so they shouldn't be far behind. The "maternity pen" I made is right beside the run for the other chickens, so they can see each other but can't attack. She's got chick crumble and plenty of water in there for herself and the babies. I even had fed/watered her a bit this morning because she looked hot but didn't want to leave the nest. She's going to be such a good momma. 😍 submitted by /u/_plot-twist_ [link] [comments]
