Giving Grit to Chicks

Our take

As your little feathered friends reach the ripe age of 7 weeks, it’s time to consider their grit needs. Mixing chick grit with their food has been a cluck-tastic way to support their digestion, especially as they've been enjoying greens and bugs. However, running low on chick grit raises an important question: is it too soon to switch to grower grit, which is significantly larger and designed for birds aged 8 to 20 weeks? You might be wondering if they’ll have the smarts to find it in a separate bowl. Fear not! Chickens can be surprisingly clever when it comes to foraging. Let’s dive into the details of grit and ensure your chicks have what they need to thrive while keeping things egg-citing!

Giving Grit to Chicks

My chicks are now 7 weeks old and I had been mixing their chick grit in with their food. They’ve been getting greens and bugs for weeks. But I ran out of their chick grit so I was going to swap them to the grower grit (8-20weeks), but it is significantly larger. Is it too soon to switch them to it and will they be smart enough to find it in a separate bowl?
