Hey guys! Chick struggling to stand- toes seem less strong than they should be.
Our take
Hey there, chicken enthusiasts! It sounds like you’re dealing with a little chick in need of some extra love and support. It’s not uncommon for chicks to struggle with toe strength, and your innovative approach with those adorable "chick shoes" is truly egg-citing! After 24 hours, it’s great to hear that she’s able to walk and move about more normally. However, it’s a bit concerning that her strength tends to wane after a few days. Supplementing her diet with poultry cell and cooked eggs is a smart move, but it might be worth exploring additional options or consulting with a poultry expert for further guidance. Let’s rally together and brainstorm ideas to help this feisty feathered friend regain her strength!

| I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts on this. I have made this little chick shoes or sandals to help brace her toes and it does seem to help after about 24 hours. She is able to walk and move about fairly normally while the boots are on and for a few days afterwards as well, but then they tend to get weak again. I do have her on poultry cell as well as supplemental eggs cooked up. [link] [comments] |

- Help with leg injury - video but not disturbing.I got this hen from a local woman who couldn’t care for her. I’d like to try my best to rehabilitate her. She said she came home and the hen appeared to have a broken leg it was all sprawled out. She had her for a week and a half injured before I got her. I believe she’d been laying on the ground for that time and could not stand even on her seemingly non-injured leg. In this video she has no wrap or splint and she keeps both her legs way up to her chest and when she is on the ground they stick out in front of her. She has open wounds on her elbow joints where she was laying like that. I now have her in this harness 24/7 to keep her off her legs and have makeshift splints to keep her legs stretched out. I’m wondering if anyone has had a chicken do this and what might have helped? I’m really hoping she can make it through and walk again she’s so stinking sweet. submitted by /u/CarefulLifeguard7647 [link] [comments]
- Followup to chicken unable to walkThank you to all who responded to my last post. After over 3 weeks yesterday was the first time she walked properly. She still unsteady und doesn't run like she used to, but in think she'll be fine 🥹 During this time she's been getting multivitamins for chickens in the water, chick feed, calcium supplement and lots of worms and insects and cuddles. 😊 She's still laying like a champ and never stopped, averaging about 3 eggs per week. submitted by /u/phoenixmanzz [link] [comments]
- Help with identify what’s wrong with baby chickHi everyone, have a baby check that is about four weeks old. She was doing really well in the beginning, but wasn’t growing as fast as the others. I was worried that she just wasn’t getting as much food and water. She keeps trying to stand but falls forward. . I’m not sure if this started happening because the other chickens might have trampled on her since they were bigger or if this was a birth defect, but she was walking just fine when we first brought her home. I have her isolated and trying to feed her food and water, but it’s hard for her to lean forward to dip her beak and water. Is there anything we can do or what might be the issue? submitted by /u/Few-Permission5362 [link] [comments]
- Help! Something is wrong with one of my little ladies:(Hello, I’ll start by saying I’m a noob and have no idea what to do. Thanks in advance for any help. So a couple days ago we noticed one of my favorite little chickens was standing kinda funny. Over the past day or so her walk is definitely different and she seems like she’s having trouble getting around. She’s almost straight up when she walks and just doesn’t seem very coordinated or able to do her normal chicken stuff. Anybody know what this is? I want her to be ok so any advice helps. Thanks. submitted by /u/woooowthatwashard [link] [comments]
