I Got Chicks From Tractor Supply (I need help)

Hey there, fellow chicken enthusiasts! I recently acquired my fourth batch of chicks from Tractor Supply, and while I’ve got some experience under my belt, this time has thrown me a curveball. Unfortunately, one of my light Brahma hens passed away suddenly, leaving me feeling a bit clucky about what went wrong. I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has experienced lethargy and unexpected losses with chicks from Tractor Supply. The rest of my feathery crew seems fine, thankfully! On a lighter note, I noticed that one of my Sapphire Sky hens has feathered legs, which has me scratching my head. Could she be a different breed? Let’s share our cluck-tastic stories and insights to help each other out!

I Got Chicks From Tractor Supply (I need help)

For context, this is the fourth batch of chicks that I’ve gotten so I know how to raise them but this is the first time I’ve gotten them from Tractor Supply

One of them sadly passed away last night (light Brahma hen) and I was wondering if anyone else has gotten chicks from Tractor Supply that suddenly get very lethargic and end up dying with little to no warning or if I was doing something wrong. The rest of the chicks seem fine.

The other thing is the breeds. I got two light brahma hens (I only have one now) and I got two Sapphire Sky hens (I still have both)

One of the Sapphire Sky hens has feathered legs though so I was wondering if she happens to be a different breed?

29 dead chicks from Murray mcmurray, why?So… you may remember me. I had ordered 29 chicks from Murray mc Murray and thought I had one survivor! She came in Friday and most of them died by Saturday night. She was eating, drinking, moving around, and seemed happy… then I wake up today, Wednesday morning, to her limp and gasping for air just like the rest right before they died. She was convulsing in her head occasionally and gasping, unresponsive. I kept her warm and tried to keep her neck mostly straight while she kept moving. She stiffened and passed in my hands. What caused this? I have 8 1-2 week old tractor supply chicks thriving in the same conditions, and 6 other tractor supply chicks who are now a month old and I had only one loss. Why did I lose 29/29 but kept the other 13/14? I did some searching online but it all said respiratory infection- or just “failure to thrive”. Failure to thrive in 29 chicks? But also, respiratory infection in 29 chicks? Could it be from the shipping conditions? Shipping temperature? They came in a smaller than usual box because it is cold outside, Murray mc Murray standard, but at least 12 arrived dead. Some looked like they’d been dead… a while.
