Introducing my Chickens to free ranging
I have 3 chickens (2 hens / 1 roo) I would like to let them out of their pen for a little while. They've been with me for about a month, and I'd just like them to have a tad more freedom then the run I have, but supervised.
Can someone give me some kind of pointers so
#1 - I have all my chickens after free range time.
#2 - no one runs away, they're still skittish around humans.
I was planning to do it closer to dusk, because my 🐥 are really good at putting themselves to bed about 15 mins before the sun goes past the horizon, but I also don't want to be chasing chickens in the dark.

- What time of the day should I let my chickens out of the coop?I free range my chickens, and for some reason I have like six of them that refuse to lay eggs in the coop if I let them out before they lay their egg, if I leave them in the coop then they will lay their eggs where I want them to otherwise they decide they need to go to my neighbor's house, I don't want to leave them in there longer than I have to so I would like to know about what time you guys would let them out if they were your chickens and you were having the same issue. - How to introduce new chickens to chicken flock?!So we have three roosters and one hen (1st pic) that are 1 year old. We bought 9 more pullets this month (hoping all are hens this time 🤞🏼🤦🏻♀️). We’ve never had to do an introduction before. We’d obviously wait until the chicks are older and have all of their feathers.. but HOW should we introduce!? submitted by /u/zenojonez [link] [comments]
- Chickies first day outsideIt’s between 63-69 today and the chicks are mostly feathered (except one.. he’s got less feathers than the rest but I think he’s ok) I’ve put them in the dog kennel in the big chickens run. Not a lot of room for them in there but I really want to make sure they get to spend time outside, and this is the safest way for me to do so. submitted by /u/Much_Tap4920 [link] [comments]
- Introducing new chickensHi, I've got 3 polish hens and today we took delivery of 2 more. So far they are separated in a mini run inside of the bigger run so they can all see eachother but not fight. I have an issue that we only have one coop. Will I be ok putting the new girls in there overnight, I'm thinking late once the others are asleep and then getting out early to let them out and separate them again? Of the 3 existing hens only 1 actually sleep in the coop as the other 2 prefer the sleeping outside on the roof unless it's mega cold in winter. I had planned that I'd put them in late and then get up early to separate them but now I'm having a crisis of confidence and am wondering if they'll be likely to fight in the coop over night?
