Is my roosters toe broken?
Our take

| This morning we noticed that he was barely moving, and when I went out to check on him I found him face first just laying in mud not moving. Brought him in and noticed he isn’t using his foot to support his weight, he just kept falling over and wasn’t even trying to stand. He has some swelling on his toe that i haven’t noticed before, and the thing just looks a bit messed up. A couple months ago he lost his talon, it’s fully healed now and starting to grow back. Could it be growing pains? Or could there be some infection internally in his foot from the injury that is making it hard for him to stand? The break was pretty gnarly, it was bleeding a ton and we had medical tape on it for a couple weeks with corn starch in it to force it to clot and heal. I washed the stinky guy up and he’s in a cage in my room now. If it is broken I want to keep him away from the other chickens and the outside environment so he can rest and heal, I don’t want him moving until he can walk properly again. At the moment he is able to stand normally but he is still off balance and not completely using his leg. He can still bend the toes on the messed up foot and he can grip my hand pretty well, so I don’t think he’s losing mobility in his foot or anything. And yes his feet are always that red, always have been and especially in chilly weather. It just rained so the ground is cold My parents are pretty positive he broke it but I wanted more opinions and hopefully some advice to help him heal. Right now I’m just going to make sure he isn’t moving around too much, we have a safe place for him to sleep tonight in the coop so he doesn’t get too stressed by being away from his hens. I’m going to keep supervising him every day and if he doesn’t get better my parents will take him to the vet so we can find out whats up I know it probably looks like he’s standing up fine in the image but he keeps losing his balance every now and then, and a couple hours ago he couldn’t even hold himself up without my help. Any help is greatly appreciated 🫶 I want to make sure my boy is gonna be okay. I’ll answer any questions you ask [link] [comments] |

- What’s wrong with my roosters leg 😢For context, he started limping about a year ago and slowly, I noticed his leg got swollen. He would limp a bit, but it was manageable. Eventually, it started swelling up, even thicker to the point you see now and he is at the point he doesn’t even use it at all. I thought maybe it was broken and had kept him isolated in a place in the coop where he could not jump up on anything for a month or so, but that doesn’t seem to help. I’ve tried reaching out to many different organizations near me and nobody can help me. submitted by /u/CYouChai [link] [comments]

- One of my chicks has an issue with his leg, help!!This baby chick was born abt 2 weeks ago and as you can see hes p behind. he had splay legs so I did the whole thing w bandaids and he was improving, but very slowly. he was one of the first to hatch but he's still the smallest. despite this he tries to run and jump, and eats and drinks like normal too. Yesterday when I got home from work, he didnt have his bandages on (not That unusual he picks at them and i replace them daily) but was just totally dragging his foot. I assume he was like that all day while I was at work bc I could tell he hadn't eaten either. I put bandages back on but now he wants to turn it all the way backwards like this instead of improved stance. he took his bandages off again and is still turning it all the way back. as far as I can tell nothings broken, my guess is he pulled or stretched a ligament. bandages dont work much anymore bc he just folds the leg inward and turns the foot around. I did notice a slight dif in positioning of his legs as shown in the second Pic. if I grab his leg I can position it like normal and can have him stand or sit w my aid and he will do it, its just that as soon as I let go it bounces back. Any tips? is it dislocated? I do know he has a scab on his left knee joint but its not a deeper injury, its older than this issue. PS. Ik hes really small for his age, he has been growing although slow, I really wanna give him a chance bc he was doing so well. TLDR; Baby chick had splayed stance, improved but tore bandages off and is now like this. no noticeable breaks, does not appear to be in pain. is it dislocated? how do I help him? submitted by /u/Firm_Construction242 [link] [comments]
- Update on sick chickenSo a couple days ago I made a post about my chicken being possibly sick but I wasn’t sure. So far she’s still alive and she’s pretty alert. She eats mushes poultry feed and drinks water, but she can’t walk. She also has a tough time trying to balance, like I notice we have to put her in a certain position for her to stay upright. When she tries to adjust herself, she uses her beak to kind of drag herself, if that makes sense? She still goes to the bathroom but she’s always sleepy. I don’t know why she can’t walk yet, I felt her legs and they are still warm. When we try to get her to walk she just cries and tips foward. It breaks my heart seeing her like this. Can somebody please help me find out what’s wrong with her? I’m trying to help her the best I can but I’m not sure how else to help her. My parents don’t know either and they kind of gave up on her but I haven’t. Please help! Ask me any questions and I’ll answer to the best of my ability. submitted by /u/Frosty-Drive3282 [link] [comments]
