Is this fowl pox?
Our take
Is it fowl pox, or just a case of chicken drama? If you've spotted little black speckles on your hens' combs, you’re not alone in your concern. Fowl pox can indeed cause scabs and lesions, particularly around the comb and wattles. However, it’s essential to consider the history of your rooster’s injury, which may also contribute to scabbing. The good news is that understanding what’s at play can help you determine the next steps for your feathered friends. Whether it’s fowl pox, an injury, or something else entirely, getting to the bottom of it will keep your coop happy and healthy. Let's dive into the details and see what these speckles might mean for your beloved birds!

| I noticed these little black speckles on some of my younger hens comb recently as well as some on my older hens I inherited with the coop. My rooster has historically had some scabbing in his comb from a previous injury that resulted in him being picked on while he was stationary. Are any of the dots/scabs possibly fowl pox? Thanks for any help or perspective. [link] [comments] |

- Fowl pox??this started out as a couple small black scab areas on the comb, then sudden and total blindness. He showed no other symptoms, I’ve had him separate so I can care for him since he can’t see, and now this. So, fowl pox? submitted by /u/Upper_Importance6263 [link] [comments]
- Black Scabs on RoostersMy roosters have developed these black scabs on their faces, combs, and waddles. I have a flock of 18 with 3 roosters. It appears to be on the roosters only. Do you think this is from fighting? I would think if it is mites or another disease it would effect males and females. submitted by /u/Appropriate-Boot-721 [link] [comments]
