Never had a chicken before. Going to repurpose this dog pen and build a coop inside with nesting boxes and hope for the best. Yes I have raccoons and bobcats and other animals in the area!
Our take
Cluck-tastic news! You’re about to dive into the whimsical world of chicken-keeping, and we’re here to cheer you on! Repurposing that dog pen into a cozy coop sounds egg-citing, even if you’ve got raccoons and bobcats lurking nearby. Just think of it as a feathered fortress in the making! Plus, with a tree growing through it, your coop will have a unique flair that even chickens would admire.

- This is our first time with chickens!Meet the girls. We have no idea what we're doing. We consulted a few chicken experts so the girls have food, clean water, warmth, are living in the garage, and we are in-process of building a coop. We are in coastal NC and are having a 6ft fence put in to help deter predators in the future. We are building a heavily reinforced coop so the coyotes and foxes (and raccoons) can't dig under. I just wanted to share that this is our first time and we are a little nervous. Our kids keep kissing them so I'm sure they're going to have salmonella or something now (the kids - not the chickens). submitted by /u/NakDisNut [link] [comments]

- Our chickens came knocking…Let me start off: chickens have a coop with small run and a big run. They are learning to go “ inside” The coop and not just the small coop run. We first wanted to have them free roam the entree back yard but ours kids were too much for them, hence the run Today its the 4th night and we didnt see the time so they were still in the night run instead of the actual night coop (theres a shelterd Place in there they looooove) Suddenly i hear chicken peckjng the Windows and see 4 out of 5 chickens in the backyard window. In laughing my ass off. One was a good girl in the night coop chilling and the other 5 were like.. snacks? They destroyed every plant in the garden ( expected) Luckily our garden is 100% safe of theres no kids lol. Started a small thunder storm shortly after so thats probably why. Heres one chicken knocking on the window… submitted by /u/reddead24f [link] [comments]
