Hi
I have a young ayam cemani who's been quite ill for the past weeks.
It all started with worms (she might not have received a sufficient dose at the breeder). She was staying prostrated in a corner of the coop and was lethargic.
We gave her a de-worm (I'm French spare my poor English 😅) and, as she was still limping, we thought she might've actually hurt her leg.
I totally blame my inexperience here because I didn't know vitamin deficiency could cause leg paralysis and we started treating her with supplements quite late.
Right now she receives vitamins B complex (the human kind as I couldn't quite find Riboflavin), crush and mixed with water. I can't tell you the exact dosage ... Count one tablet in 50 ml of water (kept in the fridge) and she receives 2ml twice a day alongside cat food.
She's better now. More alert, more energetic, she eats like an ogre, developed a deep dislike for the syringe and quite a liking for my fingers (little devil ❤️).
Problem, her legs are not getting better even after almost two full weeks of treatment.
One is limp, with little strength. She tries to move it, with more or less success, to crawl. The other is tetanised raised against her body (under her wing) and we feel great resistance when we try to move it.
She moves by crawling using her wings and sometimes even her head.
I don't know what to do. I'm not ready to give up because it's obvious she isn't either and fights like a space marine on a crusade.
Does anyone know what I can do ?

- lethargic, weak chickenhello! we are looking for some help on one of our chickens, if anyone has the knowledge. can anyone provide any kind of help? is she a lost cause, are we are delaying her death? be kind, please, our layers are not like our broilers - they are our pets on wednesday, my parents found one of their hens wrapped up in some netting in their horse barn. we are estimating that she had been trapped out there for 1.5-2 full days, as she was swamped in her own feces and severely dehydrated. yesterday (friday) i came over after work and we did some research on how to bring her back to full health. last night we observed that she had no movement in her right claw, and minimal movement in her wings. we moved her to a warm, dark space separate from the other chickens, with a heat lamp and fresh pine shavings as well as a towel for upright support. she was extremely lethargic with no strength, and very light in weight. we gave her 10ml of water mixed with egg yolk + a small amount of salt for calories/electrolytes via a dropper. between then and now, she has been checked on every couple of hours. tonight she is able to move her wings, but still not her right claw - though she is able to move the leg itself. i'm not sure how to add videos here but i did attach two pictures. questions? suggestions? pointers? submitted by /u/Maleficent-Gap-4601 [link] [comments]
- Help with baby chick, leg problemsHi! My sister had this chick hatch and it cannot walk because its leg and toes are all curled up. At first she thought it was splay leg so we tried some splints, tape, etc but that didn’t seem to help. We have been drop feeding and watering her, and have also given selenium, vitamin E, and electrolytes. She eats decently well when fed, but she can’t walk over to food and water herself. She’s very energetic and vocal, she just doesn’t have the ability to move around and it’s heart breaking. She also doesn’t seem to be growing much — she is 5 days old and her siblings are much bigger than her. My sister has reached out to all the vets in our area and no one is willing/able to take a look, and we desperately want to help this baby. If you have any advice at all, please comment! We would be so grateful, especially as we are still relatively new to having chickens. Obviously we know there is a chance that we will have to put her down but that is absolutely last resort. - Update on sick chickenSo a couple days ago I made a post about my chicken being possibly sick but I wasn’t sure. So far she’s still alive and she’s pretty alert. She eats mushes poultry feed and drinks water, but she can’t walk. She also has a tough time trying to balance, like I notice we have to put her in a certain position for her to stay upright. When she tries to adjust herself, she uses her beak to kind of drag herself, if that makes sense? She still goes to the bathroom but she’s always sleepy. I don’t know why she can’t walk yet, I felt her legs and they are still warm. When we try to get her to walk she just cries and tips foward. It breaks my heart seeing her like this. Can somebody please help me find out what’s wrong with her? I’m trying to help her the best I can but I’m not sure how else to help her. My parents don’t know either and they kind of gave up on her but I haven’t. Please help!
