Update: Leaning Towards Hen

Our take

Update Alert: Leaning Towards Hen! A month ago, I was fretting over my beloved chicken, Lil Shit, who seemed to be strutting around like a rooster. Well, the jury is still out, but I’m beginning to think this sapphire gem might just be a dominant hen after all! Unlike roosters, she lacks those barred neck feathers, and her feather coloring is leaning towards a hen’s palette. Plus, she's a big boned chonk compared to the other three sapphire gems! On another note, one of our Americauna chicks is raising suspicions as a potential rooster. Thankfully, Lil Shit is a force to be reckoned with, keeping the roo in check during squabbles. Here’s hoping for some egg-citing news from this sturdy lady in the coming months!

Update: Leaning Towards Hen

I posted here a month ago concerned that my favorite chicken was looking like a rooster. Jury is still out, but I'm staring to think Lil Shit is just a dominant hen. It's a sapphire gem, so roosters should have barred neck feathers. Her feather coloring is looking like that of a hen. She's big boned and a chonk compared to the other 3 sapphire gems. One of the "americauna" (easter egger) chicks we got has turned out to be a suspect rooster. Luckily, Lil Shit is a unit and knocks the roo back in line when he starts spats with the rest of the flock. Keeping my fingers crossed for eggs out of this chonky chicken in the next couple months.
