When a chicken goes from ruling the garden to standing mournfully under the coop, the panic is real. And when water comes *out* of her beak because you tilted her? That's the moment your heart drops into your boots. One of our fellow chicken keepers, u/Dry_Menu4804, has been living this exact nightmare for three days now, watching a normally lively girl go slow, then slow-motion, then full-on "why is she just standing there" mode. After a gentle lift and a tilt, out came yellow water and what looked like a piece of plastic or a balloon.

Here is the part where we get honest: the crop massage and water flush were the right first move. We've all been there, hands deep in feathers, hoping something, anything, will move along. The fact that she drank a little water, ate almost a whole boiled egg, and had some Swiss chard is genuinely egg-citing. That's a hen who still has some fight left. But the key detail here is that she is standing, not sitting, and her cloaca looks normal. That rules out egg binding and some reproductive horrors, which is a massive relief. Still, the standing-in-a-box-waiting-for-poop vigil is one of the loneliest places in chicken-keeping.

So what do we tell a reader who asks us about this? First, don't rush to wait and do nothing. The yellow water is suspicious, could be sour crop, could be a partial blockage that flushed. But if something like plastic or a balloon came out, it might not be finished. Keep offering water mixed with a little apple cider vinegar (the good stuff with the mother) to help balance the crop's pH. A tiny bit of plain yogurt can introduce beneficial bacteria. And if she's still standing but not pooping in the next few hours, consider a very gentle abdominal massage, think cat petting, not kneading dough.

The gritty truth? Sometimes you do everything right and still end up with a vulture in the sky. But this hen is eating, drinking, and standing normal. That's not a death sentence, that's a chicken buying herself time. So keep her warm, keep her quiet, and watch for that first poop like it's a winning lottery ticket. If it comes, you'll know the plumbing is open. And if it doesn't by morning? A trip to the vet with this story, that yellow water photo, and the mystery plastic piece could save her life. You've done the brave, messy work, now let her cluck tell you the next step.

Since 3 days one of my girls is slow. She was walking with the other's around the garden and scratching but not as lively as before. This morning she just stood a little around under the coop so I wanted to get a better look. When I lifted her up, I tilted her a little and water came running out of her beak. I expected an impacted crop so I inserted water and massaged the crop. Yellow water came out together with something that looked like plastic or a balloon.
