Some media outlets had reported that a cargo ship carrying material for manufacturing weapons for Israel had docked at the Abu Qir Port in Egypt. The government issued a statement on Thursday, calling it ‘false rumours’.

Egypt’s Ministry of State for Information said that certain media houses and social media channels had broadcast fake news of a military vessel secretly docking at the Egyptian port.

Initially raised by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions or the BDS Movement, the allegations claimed that the vessel MSC Danit had docked at the port with 15 containers of steel bound for Israel.

Authorities advised such media agencies to verify the information through official sources before disseminating it and said that they should uphold professional standards while reporting.

The government reviewed the false reports circulating on social media channels and urged them to stop spreading lies.

The authorities said that no such shipment had passed through the strategic facility.
