Two weeks in Brazil - Help
I’ll be in Brazil for two weeks in June and am overwhelmed with options. I’ll be flying in and out of Rio and would like to devote some time to the city and some of the surrounding area (Paraty, Petropolis, etc).
I would also like to explore at least one other part of the country and have a few options that caught my eye. Wanted to get feedback on what would be best to combine with Rio:
• Minas Gerias - I’d probably fly up to Belo Horizonte and make my way back down to Rio. Seems like some cool spots to explore along the way like Ouro Preto, Inhotim, Tiradentes, etc
• Salvador and Chapada Diamantini - I would fly up to Salvador, spend a day or two there and take a bus out to Lençóis to hike in the national park for three days. Was wondering if you can do independent day hikes in the park or if you need a guide?
• Sāo Luis and Lençóis Maranhenses - The National park seems really cool and pretty easy to access. Saw Sāo Luis is a UNESCO site and wanted to ask if people think it’s worth visiting on its own?
• The Pantanal - I’d really love to visit the Pantanal but all the tours I’ve seen seem prohibitively expensive. If anyone knows how to visit on the cheap, I’d really love to see it.
I’m just looking for general thoughts on if any of these would make for good additions to my trip or if there are other parts of the country worth exploring during the time I’ll be there.
Thanks!
