broiler chicks

An extra chick arrived in our brooder: and we're not chickening out yet

We ordered 30 chicks and got 31. That's not a math error, that's a bonus ball of fluff who showed up unannounced in our brooder. And you know what? We're not chickening out. After 12 years of raising flocks every single year, you'd think we'd have seen it all. But that extra peep still makes us do a double-take, followed by a little laugh and a lot of hope. So far, so good. We'll expand the brooder in a day or two, and these little guys will call it home for 2-3 weeks before moving to pasture in a mobile chicken tractor. It's a cluck-tastic start to the season.
