Suspicious feathers in the flock? Another feathered friend might be fowl play

Oh, the classic pullet plot twist, you buy six hens and suddenly you're running a surprise rooster raffle. And now your favorite girl is growing suspicious feathers? That's not just fowl play, that's a full-on feathery identity crisis. I totally get the doubt, especially when you can't peek into the coop to see who's actually doing the egg-laying duties. The good news? Hens can absolutely sprout some rooster-ish plumage, especially as their hormones do the cha-cha. It doesn't automatically mean you've got another boy on your hands. But I'd keep an eye on those feathers and maybe check for any crowing attempts. If you're still unsure, the "Fairy Egg Jury" crowd might have some clucking wisdom to share.
