Frankie, I owe you a cluck-tastic apology and maybe some mealworms.
Well, I owe Frankie an apology. A big one. A cluck-ing huge one, actually.
A couple of days ago, I went public with my doubts about our favourite hen. I questioned her gender, of all things, simply because she hadn't laid an egg by ten months. I went too far, and I admit it. This afternoon, that all changed. I heard the unmistakable, glorious cacophony of a hen announcing her triumph from behind a bushy fern next to the fire pit. And there she was: Frankie, standing proudly next to her very first egg. It wasn't in the nesting box, but it was there, and it was perfect. Good girl, Frankie!
