My rooster gives his blueberries away and now I'm crying over chicken chivalry
Oh, the chivalry! I'm right there with you, crying over a rooster who gives away his blueberries. It's the purest form of fowl play, seeing a tough little guy with a comb and wattles act like a feathered gentleman, sprinting to his hen so she can have the first snack. That's not just cute; that's the kind of wholesome madness that makes you question who really runs the farm. It reminds me of that mystery chick who thinks you're a perch, another bird rewriting the rules of chicken affection. These creatures are too good for us, honestly. They're terrifying one minute (those claws!), and the next they're offering you a masterclass in selfless love. I'm not crying; you're crying.
Saddle-sized rats raiding your run? I feel your fowl pain
Oh, I feel this in my very soul. There's nothing quite like the sinking dread of spotting a rat so plump you could slap a saddle on it and ride it into battle. You're out here trying to be a chicken whisperer, but the real battle is against these chupacabra-sized feed thieves. It's a cluck-tastic nightmare, honestly. The irony isn't lost on me, I can hatch an egg with my eyes closed, but keeping the feed secure? Apparently, that's where my expertise flies the coop. Maybe check the hardware cloth gaps? Or embrace the madness and name the biggest one. Speaking of unexpected arrivals, our story about the "One-Eyed Stranger Shows Up on a Porch" proves chickens find us when we least expect it.
My feathered friends stage a fowl food heist every single day
Every single day, my feathered friends stage a fowl food heist. My chickens and ducks have lived peacefully for about a year, separate houses, separate runs, but they free range together. I leave both runs open so everyone can grab food, water, or a nesting spot. The chickens always have their own layer feed from Tractor Supply. Yet every day, they devour all the duck food and ignore their own. I hardly ever refill the chicken feed. They only touch it at sunset, when they get locked in. Why the duck-food obsession? The calcium is higher, but otherwise it's less nutritious. None of their eggs show low-calcium signs. I doubt it's just taste. Maybe they're fowl play connoisseurs?
