Silver Leghorns

Cluck-tastic mystery: 13 chicks but one sneaky Silver Leghorn plays fowl hide-and-seek

I counted 13 chicks that night and felt my heart drop into my gizzard. Garnet, one of my precious Silver Leghorns I'd waited forever to get, was just gone. I worked myself into such a state that I got heartburn, which is honestly a very chicken-keeper mood. My mom went out at dawn to search for me, and there sat Garnet, calmly waiting outside the kennel like she'd just been running a little late for breakfast. This is the fowl hide-and-seek that keeps us all on our toes. Three years of this rollercoaster, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
