Splash Ameraucana

Fluffy head, feathery mystery: is your splash Ameraucana a rooster

Oh, a fluffy-headed splash Ameraucana mystery, my favorite kind of fowl play! At four months old, that extra-fluffy noggin is definitely raising some cluck-tastic questions. Splash Ameraucanas are gorgeous, but they can be tricky to sex, especially when the feathers are doing all the talking. A fluffier head could mean you've got a rooster developing his fancy plumage, or it could just be a hen with exceptional cheek poofs. The real tell will be the tail feathers and comb development over the next few weeks. If you're worried about a surprise rooster, you're not alone, many of us have been there.
