When Your Feathered Friend Turns Picky, It's Time to Cluck Into Action

A speckled Sussex who's usually the queen of backyard exploration, suddenly turning into a stationary, feed-snubbing puffball? That's enough to make any chicken keeper's heart cluck a little faster. Our feathered friend here is showing all the classic signs of a picky eater having a rough go, but with the added worry of a fluffed-up posture and a skipped egg-laying day. The fact that she'll still dig for earthworms is a good sign, it means her foraging instincts are alive and well. While the molting theory has merit, especially with two others already dropping feathers, the sudden change and watery diarrhea warrant a watchful eye. Poultry cell is a great start, and getting her separated to monitor her poop was a smart move.
