| | Hello, I found a baby chick and I’ve been taking care of it for a couple days but it’s driving me insane. I don’t want it to die or leave it outside without a mom, but I don’t know what to do.. I live on Oahu. I’m exhausted I need help. It’s pretty young. It’s healthy, eating, and pooping. I thought I could handle helping it, but I was wrong. - baby chick (got abandoned maybe?)hi guys I’m happy I found a community for chickens as I ran into a happy problem but not so happy as I have no idea on how to properly take care of a baby chick. The story goes that we found it stuck in a bush about to get eaten by a cat and saved it and we went to go find its mom and it was no use. We’re hoping we find her tomorrow morning so we can return her baby but we have touched the baby chick of course. My main concern is if we cannot find the hen in the morning or in general, where can I relocate it? I cannot keep it at all as I have a cat and two dogs and I’m scared that one day something could happen and she ends up deceased :(. we think it’s a girl but we’re not sure. We fed it water, smashed up corn and some quinoa. please let me know any advice on care for now or anything else I can do for relocation. - Update the chick I found is doing greatMy last post https://www.reddit.com/r/chickens/s/B2Wf5RzWrs I live in Hawaii where’s there’s wild chickens and I found this gem Zoey ♥️ It was exhausting trying to care for her at first when she was 1 day old and I didn’t have the right equipment. Things are easier now! Zoey is 9 or 10 days old now. She is definitely a girl. I feel like she needs chicken friends, but she’s healthy, happy, and she loves me. I’ve done a lot of research but it’s my first time owning my own chicken any advice is appreciated😁 I have a set up for her, but she doesn’t like to be alone because she needs a chick friend. I want to get another chick. He said he will build a coop in the backyard & he wants eggs. She thinks I’m her mom. I’m a momma hen lol. I know it’s a girl for a fact I’ve studied and checked her butt. (My housemate hates roosters I had to make sure) i’m raising her the best way I know how given that I found her unexpectedly when she was about one day old. - Help baby chicke nI volunteer at a place that has baby chicks, and the main bird volunteer is out of town and one of the babies is not doing well. This morning I found it on the bottom of the container with all the other baby chicks and it looked like it was dead, but it was moving a little so I gave it some egg yolk and Pedialyte mixed in a dropper and held it near the heater (not too close!) alternating betweeen heating it and heating it, for about 90 minutes. It had a lump on its chest, which I just learned is a crop. I had to leave for a while but is there anything I can try to purchase? I usually foster puppies and have lots of experience with sick puppies but none with birds. - Help! I only have one chicken left!I'm down to one sole survivor from my flock of 4. What do i do? She's traumatized and has been curled up in the nesting box for the last two days, only coming out if i physically make her. I put a mirror in the coop and have been trying to spend time nearby don't yardwork and talking. i need to decide if: a) I should run out and buy a couple chicks to put under her. She's been broody, but idk if she's too freaked out now to take care of herself or babies. b) give her away to someone with other chickens c) try to get some pullets, hoping that is less work than introducing full grown chickens I want to do whatever is likely the least amount of work for me, I've got a baby and a toddler and not a lot of energy to take care of much else this spring. submitted by /u/Any_Jacket5204 [link] [comments]
