I’m finally one of you now 🥹
Our take
I’m finally one of you now! 🥹 After much convincing from my husband, we’ve welcomed chickens into our lives. He took on the task of building the coop and run, and gathered all the essentials—pens, heat lamps, food, and wood shavings. Yesterday, we took the plunge! Initially, we aimed for just two chicks, but the store’s minimum of four doubled our little flock. I’m utterly smitten with these adorable babies, but I won’t lie: I’m also a bundle of nerves as a first-time chicken owner! On a delightful note, my chihuahuas are completely smitten with the chicks, showing surprising gentleness and curiosity. Here’s to this cluck-tastic adventure ahead, filled with a sprinkle of chaos and a whole lot of love! 🐔❤️

| My husband finally convinced me to get chickens. He built the coop/run, got the pen and heat lamp and food and wood shavings and everything else that goes along with getting chicks… and finally yesterday we took the plunge. We were only planning on getting 2 to start but the store had a 4-chick minimum so we got double what we planned for. I’m in love with these little babies but I’m also extremely nervous as a first time chicken owner!! PS my chihuahuas are absolutely obsessed with the chicks and are so gentle with them 🥹 [link] [comments] |

- This is our first time with chickens!Meet the girls. We have no idea what we're doing. We consulted a few chicken experts so the girls have food, clean water, warmth, are living in the garage, and we are in-process of building a coop. We are in coastal NC and are having a 6ft fence put in to help deter predators in the future. We are building a heavily reinforced coop so the coyotes and foxes (and raccoons) can't dig under. I just wanted to share that this is our first time and we are a little nervous. Our kids keep kissing them so I'm sure they're going to have salmonella or something now (the kids - not the chickens). submitted by /u/NakDisNut [link] [comments]
- Look one of my bantam’s laid her first egg!At the end of October last year my boyfriend rescued two Old English Bantam chicks. We had a flock that was dumped by their owner in our neighborhood. Every morning 6 chickens would be on our porch wanting food. Of course we started feeding them and it became routine for us to take care of them. Then one day my boyfriend saw one of the hens had two babies chicks running behind her. With them running free we knew those chicks were probably not going to make it against predators. So we took the babies in turned the shed into a coop with a run. And been having the best time watching them grow up. We even got them two more sisters! Yesterday bf was cleaning the nesting boxes and right when he opened one our girl Scoot Scoot was making the noises they make right before laying, however she got spooked and ran out. There was no egg. We decided to go eat and run around for alittle. When we got back I thought to myself go check the nesting boxes maybe she went back and sure enough she did! Being a first time chicken owner it was absolutely exciting and rewarding to see an egg for the first time. We put a lot of TLC into these chickens and now I feel like an official chicken mom! submitted by /u/United-Camel4560 [link] [comments]

- Finally finished (mostly) our chicken run!We had been using temporary janky run for our girls for the past couple months while we got through a busy time at work. Finally last week we were able to set some days aside and get it done. We’re first time chicken owners so this has been a huge learning experience for us. We have a lot to learn still, but we’re feeling pretty proud of this next step and wanted to share with this community cus you guys have been an amazing resource for us. All 6 of our gals put out an egg on their first day in the new run, so we’re considering that a success 🤣 Also to note before it’s addressed in the comments: I say mostly finished in the title because we still need to add a security skirt and border around the run as well as finish the trim on the backside. submitted by /u/opensaysme [link] [comments]
