Is my chick’s toe broken?
Our take
Is your chick’s toe giving you a case of the clucks? You’re not alone! Baby chicks can sometimes have a few quirks, like a curled toe, which might raise some questions. Since your little one arrived just four days ago from Meyer Hatchery and has been getting plenty of handling, it’s important to monitor her closely. While she doesn’t seem to be limping yet, noticing these little details can help ensure she stays healthy and happy. With a routine of mediated chick feed, fresh water, and probiotics, you’re already on the right track. Let’s dive into what could be going on with her toe and explore some egg-citing ways to help your feathered friend thrive!

| Baby chicks arrived on Tuesday (4 days ago) from Meyer hatchery. This is the first I have noticed her toe curled. She doesn’t appear to be limping (yet?) We have been handling every day twice a day to clean butts. I don’t remember this much poopy butt last year! Mediated chick feed, 24/7 fresh water, chick probiotics in water available every other day. [link] [comments] |

- Brand new chick with severed toe and a couple seem broken? Already treated but not sure how it happened.I've since cleaned it, dyed her feet blue, and wrapped the bad foot along with ointment. ( Feet blue so they are less inclined to peck at it, my hands are also now fully blue) Not an expert at this at all this was my first Incubator hatch, her and four others. One other has a broken toe but I'm not sure how? There was nothing sharp in the incubator and she couldn't have gotten her toe stuck so idk. I just went on gut of how to treat it I think she'll be fine but idk how she did this. submitted by /u/mindyourownbusiness5 [link] [comments]
- Hey guys! Chick struggling to stand- toes seem less strong than they should be.I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts on this. I have made this little chick shoes or sandals to help brace her toes and it does seem to help after about 24 hours. She is able to walk and move about fairly normally while the boots are on and for a few days afterwards as well, but then they tend to get weak again. I do have her on poultry cell as well as supplemental eggs cooked up. submitted by /u/Inevitable_Club_310 [link] [comments]
- I just realized my girl only has 4 nailsI just realized my littlest chicken only has nails on 4 of her toe, combined. It's not fresh, and I know her feet haven't been injured since I've had her. So I'm going to either assume it was a birth defect or something happened at her previous owners. My question is - will this cause issues for her later on? She doesn't seem to be in any pain. She's not bleeding. No open skin. And I must say she's the fast chicken I've got! Just want to know if there's anything i should look out for. submitted by /u/TonkaJahary [link] [comments]
- What happened to my chicken's toe, why is it curved, and what can I do?I woke up last night and I saw my chicken running around, I grabbed him and put his toe back into place. Hes been limping, only standing with his other foot, and sitting down. Yes he eats an drinks, but what can I do to help him heal? Im really worried. submitted by /u/Rawlight_huh [link] [comments]
