Is this chick alright?
Our take

| This batch of chicks hatched late February and are around 7 weeks old. I dont live at home but i come every weekend to take care of the animals and make my moms life a little easier. This is also our first batch of chicks ever (we’ve had chickens for over 11 years 😅 we got new hens last December after the old ones passed away) and they all seem to be very healthy except for this one. Its been about 3 weeks since i noticed her struggling to keep her balance and when she fell she sometimes had a hard time getting up and needed a helping hand to get up, she walks slowly and carefully, shes almost always shivering and is under the heat lamp the most. She does drink, eat normally and her poop also looks normal. And recently she hasnt been falling as often but she still seems to be really cold and we’ve done pretty much everything we can to make it warmer for her. [link] [comments] |

- We just hatched some chickens in our incubator we're new (me and my mom) and the first two look fine but this one looks weird is she ok?She's smaller than the other ones so my mom separated her from the group (black chickens) because they kept pecking her,my mom thinks she's sick and the other little black on that was born with her still can't walk right and it was born on Friday. Is she sick? submitted by /u/YogurtclosetJust4914 [link] [comments]
- 3 of 7 chicks acting weird. Hard time walking, sometimes yell when trying to stand up.Assumed they were getting crushed in the sleeping cuddle puddle. Separated from the rest. Back girl in pic laying odd, same with girl on right. Black girl mainly tells when trying to stand if she’s been laying for a while. Nutridrench in the water, chick starter, egg for extra supplements. Is this illness or are they hurt? Black girl started last night. Other two today. They will move, eat, drink, but movement is stumbled and slow. If they’re hurt, I can’t tell what part, if it’s a wing or a leg. submitted by /u/luckyapples11 [link] [comments]
- Is the behavior concerning? It is day 3 of having these chicks, we received them via mail Tuesday morning at one day old from a well known hatchery. We lost one within the first 10 hours another had begun hawk sitting and acting slightly lethargic on day two so we gave yolk with vitamin b, selenium, and vitamin e. She was found this morning away from heat source nearly unresponsive after being placed back with heat she made a 180 turn around I’m not sure why she was all alone in the cold but I am very concerned. Since arrival their water has had electrolytes and probiotics by sav-a-chick. She seems to be making progress but in this video you can see her slip fall then get stuck on her back the other chicks in the brooder begin to peck at her in what looks to me a quite aggressive manner. This is the first round of chicks I’ve ever had on my own so any advice on husbandry changes, behavior norms, ect. would be greatly appreciated. I worry I might need to separate her to prevent more bullying or if this is more a curiosity thing the other chicks do. Luckily my husband works night so I was able to call him and help her up she’s a bit wobbly but otherwise seems alright I will give her more yolk and possibly separate this evening depending on replies. I’ll include a the video of her falling and our current brooder set up. This morning I added a ceramic heat bulb in addition to the heat plate on the other side of the brooder in case there was too much cool space. Other than that the brooder is exactly the same as the video. Thank you to anyone who read this novel i’m afraid the over explaining and babbling is hereditary and can’t be helped. submitted by /u/Reasonable_Garage_43 [link] [comments]
- Help with identify what’s wrong with baby chickHi everyone, have a baby check that is about four weeks old. She was doing really well in the beginning, but wasn’t growing as fast as the others. I was worried that she just wasn’t getting as much food and water. She keeps trying to stand but falls forward. . I’m not sure if this started happening because the other chickens might have trampled on her since they were bigger or if this was a birth defect, but she was walking just fine when we first brought her home. I have her isolated and trying to feed her food and water, but it’s hard for her to lean forward to dip her beak and water. Is there anything we can do or what might be the issue? submitted by /u/Few-Permission5362 [link] [comments]
