New sick chicken
Our take

In the whimsical world of chicken-keeping, just when you think you’ve seen it all, a new challenge appears, ready to ruffle your feathers. The recent post by u/CornChip723 about their ailing Ameraucana chicken certainly highlights the unpredictability of our feathered friends. After experiencing the joy of recovery with one chicken, they now face the sudden worry of another's health, which is a rollercoaster ride that many chicken owners can relate to. It’s a reminder that while we often discuss the delightful quirks of chicken breeds — perhaps in light of a recent comparison like Creme Legbar vs Prairie Blubell — the reality of keeping chickens can swiftly turn serious.
The symptoms detailed—an extremely bloated stomach and a penguin-like stance—point to a possible digestive issue. It’s a scenario that echoes the fears many of us harbor: the dread of watching our beloved pets suffer. The rapid development of these symptoms in just two days suggests that this isn't merely a case of "chickening out" on some minor ailment. Instead, it demands immediate attention and an understanding of the urgent need for intervention. In the vibrant chicken-keeping community, many have likely encountered similar situations, and sharing insights could be invaluable. After all, as we've contemplated in discussions about chicken identity, like in So if people with bees are beekeepers..., the terminology we use reflects deeper connections to our animals.
This situation emphasizes not just the physical health of our chickens but also the emotional investment we place in them. The connection we develop with our feathered companions transforms the act of raising chickens from a hobby into a heartfelt passion. When our chickens face health issues, it can feel like a personal crisis. For many, the act of diagnosing and treating a sick chicken is akin to navigating a maze of uncertainty, where each twist could lead to recovery or further complications. As u/CornChip723 seeks advice, they tap into the communal knowledge that makes chicken-keeping both a challenge and a joy. It reminds us that we are not alone in this journey; we have a flock of fellow enthusiasts ready to offer support, whether it be practical advice or just a virtual shoulder to lean on.
Looking ahead, this incident serves as a prompt for all chicken enthusiasts to reflect on the health and well-being of their own flocks. How often do we check in on our chickens' health beyond the routine feed and water? Perhaps it’s time for a communal health check—sharing tips, experiences, and even the fears we face. As we continue to navigate the ups and downs of chicken ownership, our ability to connect and support one another will only make us stronger in our endeavors. After all, as we all know, chicken-keeping is never just about the eggs; it’s about the community we build around our “fowl friends.” So, what’s your take? Have you ever faced a sudden health scare with your chickens? Let's cluck about it!
| Okay so on the plus side, my previously posted chicken has made a full recovery and is back to normal. However now my Americuna is sick? This is a different illness it seems. Her stomach and lower area is extremely bloated and puffed up, like she's full of water or something. She's standing like a penguin. Has anyone had this issue??? This is only happening in the last two days, she has been fine up until the other day so it has rapidly developed. Please help [link] [comments] |

- Update: Chicken still sick, can’t walk or stand. She can perchMy poor Pickles went to the vet, laid an egg, (I thought she was egg bound), she’s been getting around the clock care in quarantine, but she still can’t walk, she can perch on a dowel, but that’s it. She is eating at least one scrambled egg a day, not really drinking but if I string water over her beak she drinks. Her poops looked normal this morning, yesterday they were mixed, some normal, some watery. It’s been 6 days of this. WTH?? This is her little set up. Any ideas? submitted by /u/LemonyFresh108 [link] [comments]
- help!!!Help! My chicken pop tart started showing weird symptoms today. One of her eyes will not fully open and she is wobbling and unable to walk straight. On top of that she is unable to eat (she tries but then drops it) but is drinking normally I’ve added probiotics and recover 911. I’ve noticed some drooling and also a small bump next to her nose which may be hard to see in the picture. I want to note that I bought her and her sister through an add on craigslist. After the 30 day separation for my original flock, i finally integrated them and they started showing signs of Coryza which then infected my initial flock. I’ve given them antibiotics for the past seven days to alleviate the symptoms and it helped all of my flock it seems. ***I do not plan on introducing any more chickens or selling my chickens given their sickness and I am not culling them unless they appear to be in extreme pain that I cannot fix. submitted by /u/Sizzlestixs [link] [comments]
