Cluck-tastic news, everyone! I’m excited to share my first chick hatch featuring the delightful Rhode Island Reds! Out of nine eggs, one unfortunately didn’t develop—I had to toss it before the lockdown. But drumroll, please… seven adorable chicks hatched! I must say, these little feathered friends have already shown their resilience, having survived two power outages during the critical first weeks of incubation. Talk about a strong start! Despite the odds, I’m thrilled to welcome these little bundles of joy into the coop. Whether you’re a seasoned chicken enthusiast or just enjoying the charm of these birds, I can’t wait to share more about their quirky antics and growing personalities. - First 100% successful hatch! I'm drowning in Silkies!Yesterday was day 21 of our first (and probably only) hatch of the year. I ordered 14 eggs from a breeder here in Vermont that I've gotten eggs from before on ebay. Last time, I went and picked them up, but I had her ship them to us this time because it was like a 5-hour round trip drive last time. Hit me up in DM's if you want the seller. She's super easy to deal with and she's obviously selling really good eggs. On day 18, we went into lockdown with 13 eggs (after pulling the one dud at day 10) and by 3pm on day 21 all 13 chicks had hatched! We got extremely lucky, but we also, before starting to incubate the eggs really checked out the temperature management in our old Farm Innovators incubator. I've hatched a couple hundred quail out of that incubator over the years, but for whatever reason after a few years off and moving to chickens, the temperature was all over the place inside. We suspected the incubator after two previous very tragic hatches. We replaced the incubator and verified the new one was steady and consistent in all internal locations. We got a super good mix of colorations and one naked neck! I was expecting 5-7 chicks at most and now I have to re-think my whole chick raising setup to accommodate more! - First time hatching!We’ve had backyard chickens for about 9 years, but this was our first time hatching chicks! It was such a fun experience for me and my girls. We were lucky that two of them decided to hatch while my daughters were home and not in bed, so they got to watch the process. So so fun. We started with 6 eggs, and have 3 chicks. (1 wasn’t fertilized, 1 never hatched after 25 days, 1 died after hatching)— is that average, you think? - First time incubating our own eggs! Brahma x Prairie Bluebell12 of 18 eggs hatched! such a fun weekend watching them pip their way out & get all fluffy :) our females are brahma, prairie bluebell & one leghorn . - Rainbow Hatch (Pic Dump)Our resident rooster wasn't getting the job done —we only had 1 fertile egg out of 13 in our test run, so we ordered a "Rainbow Pack" of 18 eggs from a breeder, and yesterday was hatch day. We’ve had 14 healthy chicks hatch so far, and the variety is amazing. We got a surprise Lavender Marans and one of our eggs labeled as bresse popped out a blue chick, so we sorted it as an easter egger for now. Figured I would share some pics i took while getting them banded and sorted. The Lineup: Wheaten Ameraucanas: Red and Orange bands Crested Cream Legbars: These guys are auto-sexing, so we already know we have 2M (Blue bands) and 2F (Pink bands). Easter Eggers: Grey and Blue bands Bresse: White and Black bands Lemon Pyle Brahma: Yellow band (Already a absolute unit compared to the others).
