My Plymouth is Molting, Moody, or in Trouble: and I'm Scared

When it comes to our feathered friends, health concerns can really ruffle our feathers! If your Plymouth is suddenly lethargic and hasn’t laid eggs in weeks, it’s natural to worry about her well-being. You initially suspected molting, which can be a seasonal issue, but her decline after the Epsom salt dip raises some red flags. While it’s important to stay calm, it’s also crucial to observe her closely. Is she eating or drinking? Is her posture improving at all? Egg binding can be serious, but other health issues may also be at play. Seeking advice from a vet who understands chickens can provide clarity and reassurance. Remember, you’re not alone in this chicken-keeping adventure—many of us share similar experiences!

Free-range Cornish cross? My flock thinks they're just chickens

So, my flock thinks they're just chickens. But the internet keeps telling me Cornish cross birds are gross, messy, and practically immobile. I've been raising them for years, and honestly? I just don't see it. The secret is free ranging, plain and simple. These chicks head outside around three weeks old and learn the foraging ropes from the rest of the crew. They barely touch the feeder and act like any other breed until about eight or nine weeks, when they finally start to slow down. We harvest at eight to ten weeks for a solid ten-pound dressed bird, and I've never lost one to heart or mobility issues. They're not dirty, they're not covered in feces, and they're not broken. This is the way.

When "treatment" is just fowl play on a helpless bird

I am beyond disgusted after stumbling upon the Facebook channel "satria jago," where chickens are subjected to abusive and cruel treatment for the sake of views and clicks. In one disturbing video, the creator pretends to "clean" a chicken’s ear by pulling out a string that was clearly placed there intentionally. In another shocking instance, he drops plant juices into a chicken's eye and rubs it around, causing visible distress and pain to the poor animal. This kind of content is not only unacceptable but also harmful to both the animals and the audience. We must come together to flag this channel and prevent these abusers from profiting off the suffering of our feathered friends.
